Easter Tree and Nativity

The Decorations You Don’t Expect

Have you ever thought about it? I bet you haven't. When we talk about trees and nativity scenes, the first thing that comes to mind for anyone is, of course, Christmas. However, not everyone knows that these traditions also exist for Easter.

All you need to create your own little home garden with an Easter tree is a blossoming twig (usually hazel or cherry) and a lot of imagination! The little tree can be decorated with eggs, flowers, chicks, dragonflies, and colorful ribbons.

Around the tree, you can create a mat of fake grass or green crepe paper, filling it with charming characters. Once again, Jim Shore has come to my rescue, as he has designed magnificent figurines that, in my opinion, seem made just for the occasion.

If you prefer a more religious tradition, then the Easter Nativity is definitely for you. We know that this type of nativity scene was present in Naples—the home of nativity scenes par excellence—since the sixteenth century.

Of course, your imagination and the available space are two very important variables, but typically the scenes represented are those of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ: Jesus in Gethsemane, the flagellation, the Via Crucis, the Crucifixion, and finally the Resurrection.

And if you don’t live in Naples and can’t stroll through the stalls of San Gregorio Armeno to choose the statues you like best, don’t worry! I’ve discovered a website that can help you find what you’re looking for. On russoraffaele.it, you’ll find a vast selection of figures suitable for creating your Easter nativity.

If you want your creation to correspond to the sequence of events, you can choose to set up one scene at a time during Lent, or do it all at once: just unleash your creativity, and the result will be enviable!
